![]() ![]() Don't be worried about it being all Disneyfied though, this isn't the saccharine sweet type of setting, but it also isn't full-on macabre either. Many of the characters and tropes will be instantly recognizable from childhood fairytales with hints of Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, and more all getting little references or storylines. The world of Wytchwood draws much of its inspiration from European folklore and is populated by the people, talking animals, and beasties from that tradition. No base building, no combat, no survival elements, it all revolves around the gathering and crafting.and the story. Gathering ingredients, crafting some goodies, which allow you to gather rarer materials, which then, in turn, make rarer items, with which you can collect- well you get the idea. ![]() In some games, it's a major feature, in others a minor one, but I think this is the first time I've seen a game where crafting is all there is. This mechanic has become extremely popular lately, appearing in many genres. There is an option for No Button Holding for crafting and opening doors.Crafting: that's what Wytchwood is all about. There is an option to turn off the character portrait movement during dialog as well. The UI size can be changed to increase the text size for everything in the game.Ĭamera Sway can be turned off to reduce motion sickness. The most important text, the names of the ingredients, spells, and reagents is in large text, as well as the major dialogue boxes with important npcs. The text size varies throughout the game and is fairly high contrast. There is a detailed map of your current area that shows quest markers, and you are able to zoom. Your currently tracked quest appears on the screen, but there are no arrows or visual indicators of where to go next. The journal tracks all of the quests you are currently able to work on, and the sub-sections of each of these questlines, and provides very clear guidance on each step. The placement of portals usually makes the distance you need to travel fairly short, especially if you open the portals to new areas as soon as you are able. You able to return to that spot to retrieve your dropped items. When you lose all your hearts, you are transported back to the witch's hut and some of your inventory is dropped where you were standing. You can always craft a Hearthseed to return to your home area in the game, if you run out of ingredients for it you can craft 1 anyway so that you don't get stuck. The game autosaves frequently and you can quit at anytime and resume right where you left off.
